Altered Designer Paper

Yesterday’s Ways_To_Use it on SCS was cool, the challenge was to DO something with your designer paper on hand, spruce it up somehow. I went to the corner in my room that had painfully neglected DP and started digging, found some beautiful DP from Papertrey Ink. I saw what I wanted to use and started digging in the stamps, turns out the pack called “Chocolate Remix” had a butterfly pattern that fit SO well with the “Butterfly Kisses” stamp set, I just had to try this out.

butterflies

this card started out as a fancy schmancy multi layer thing which I hated, took everything off and ended up simple and nice :) The stamp set has a small solid butterfly that I used to stamp lavender moon ink into the small butterflies on the paper. It also has a outline butterfly that fit around the larger one on the paper, I stamped that with versamark and clear embossed, quite yumm! Here is a side by side comparison of the before and after:

Sweet, isn’t it? The chocolate brown will fit with many other colors, lots of possibilities. Of course the large butterfly stamp seems like the same that’s on the paper, I never even realized that, I don’t think they were released together (stamps and paper). This was a fun exercise to do, I’ll never look at my DPs the same again :) I got a kick out of tying the brown ribbon around the butterfly body and ‘sewing’ some antennae with it……

sunshine, sunshine….

Yes we DO have plenty of sunshine, its just about 20 degrees too cold :(
By the time this is posted I’m probably in vicodin heaven, ugh. More bone implant surgery yesterday, as I am pre_writing this post I’m not sure how it went yet, hehe…
Here is a card that I played with Sunday’s Holiday Challenge on Splitcoast, it had to have scallops, a sentiment, be square and have ribbon, no glitter:

As an after thought, I should have done the image on light blue, not kiwi kiss green, but I realized that too late. I used colored pencil right on the green card stock, love how it covers it, then added some shimmer chalks here and there over the pencil background. The girl with flowers and mountains are from I Brake for Stamps, the sentiments are from Papertrey Ink.
Ah yes, and of course some red flower soft sprinkled at the bottom of the image, LOVE that stuff! and it seems to last forever, I think it should be called flower fluff as each time you open the container there is more than before :)

flowery soft…

Have you tried this “flower soft” stuff? Not as annoying as glitter and embossing powder that escapes your clean-up attempts, but pretty much right up there with the: this gets all OVER the place group ;)
I used it here to frame the sentiment (papertreyink) and sprinkled some here and there among the flowers of the main stamp (ibrakeforstamps).

The image was colored with pencils, I’m on a total white-trip, so lots of white coloring on non-white card stock.
Do you sometimes have to “live out” a certain preference in technique or layout or such? I do enjoy when this happens but it could get boring as well :)

more ATC fun!

I am really having fun with these little pieces of art…not sure if it is the size or making multiples or coming up with an idea for a theme or, last but not least! to get back lots of little ATCs from others when doing a swap. Here is one with a theme for New Years: plans, resolutions, dreams etc. I used a new technique from the new TJ newsletter called “torn frames”. this tech was developed by the extraordinarily talented Kathie McGuire and I just love it. In my example the torn frames are supposed to give a dimensional feeling of “wood/bark/trees” to provide a frame for the bird composition.

atc

All stamps are papertrey ink. Most ATC swaps say that you need to use an embellishment of sorts. Well I was out of my mind happy when my new crystals arrived yesterday, the “cosmo jet” swarovsky crystal looks so much like a bird eye! very happy. So there is my embellishment, its only 2mm but it counts :) The crystal in combination with the bit distressed and torn look of the rest of the ATC tickles me pink…. I made many, see:

new years ATCs

There you have it, in 2009 I shall remember that life is like a song and I will definitely try to spread my wings! Starting the year off with a 5 page spread in the Winter Take Ten magazine containing 12 cards is a good start I think :)

I must mention that I gave the bird some shimmerz by stamping in versafine grey, then coloring over it with a light blue shimmers paint, fabulous effect, isn’t it?!

some show and tell! ATC swap returns

Yeahh! I got my first ever ATC swaps back and how beautiful they are! This one was a “snazzy holiday swap” from the Papertrey Ink Group, lead by Carrie. thanks so much Carrie, this was a load of fun, here are the ATCs that I received in no particular order:

Carrie Bohrer

I love what Carrie did here with the background, see that subtle shading making hills for the trees, so pretty! The glitter snowflakes in the background are REALLY glittery!

regan dagostino

Regan used PTI inks and papers for this one, I love the color combo and that page pebble over the punched star! very cool.

whoistracy

Tracy’s ATC is so pretty and elegant. Soft colors, the popped up tree is shimmery and don’t you just love that tiny pearl on top? I love how it is balanced out by the short ribbon tail on the right, super!

jodi herchold

Jodi used shimmer card stock to make this really pretty channukah ATC, love the stickles as the flames and the pretty silver ribbon!

verna mason

Verna’s ATC is very glittery. I love how the tree fits right on the size, the elastic ribbon adds such a wonderful holiday touch!

sonya lore

Sonya’s ATC has a very interesting background, it looks like it was done on glossy card stock, it gives the perfect backdrop for her “Frosted Window Panes”. What a perfect ribbon to add to this one!

cindy myosotis

Cindy’s (myosotis) ATC is so pretty with pink/white/silver, I am totally into pink this Christmas! Love the double ribbon and that small bling on the star, very pretty!

deanna woodland

Some more pink again on Deanna’s ATC! The berries on the wreath are done with liquid pearls, shiny and dimensional. What a great color combination on this one!

lesa smaligo

Lesa’s ATC really leaves you with a JOYful feeling! The colors are great, love that ribbon tail and the metal snow flake!

this was truly fun! It is like a holiday tour through the PapertreyInk Christmas aisle :)
You can also browse all ATCs again in my Papertrey Ink Album , hopefully there will be more swaps. I must say it is a lot of fun to do swaps limited to one company’s stamp sets and amazing how many different ideas stampers come up with! Thanks all, what great inspiration :)

what became of the little ones?

In my post below, there were a bunch of tiny pieces all along the right edge, ATC sized :)
See who is waiting so patiently for me to dibble and dabble to get their backgrounds done:

papertrey ink santas

Aren’t they cute? Koh-i-noor pencil and gamsol.
Then finally after assembly:
PTI ATC swap

I used my new “flower soft” on these in the color “vintage Christmas”, what yumm fun! Almost as messy as glitter but I don’t think it flies and sticks everywhere like glitter. A little goes a long way! Great stuff! A bit closer? of course!

the gift

All stamps are from the Papertreyink “Believe” set, I really like that simple santa! These are for my first ever ATC swap!! A bit nervous, but I do like the way they came out.
